The president of the Students' Union Government (SUG) at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology today placed a ban on bottled beverages (bottle minerals) and sachet water.

The president stated this during a telephone interview with one of our reporters. The president in the person of Comr. Daminabo Alali Daniel said this reason was because the bottles were used when a cult groups clashed sometimes last week on campus.

Meanwhile, the Vice president of the Union in the person of Comr. Sunday Patience alias Spencer while briefing our reporters said she had no idea of the said ban and that the entire executives were not aware.

While trying to reach the Secretary general of the Union in the person of Comr. Atuegbu, Confidence his number did not go through. Gistmeust.com reporters called the Auditor general of the Union in the person of Comr. Keakiile, Precious, Comr. Edoghotu I. Harry (Director of Publicity), Comr. Ndi Favour (Welfare Secretary), Comr. Enyi, Harold (Director of transport), and Comr. Elemchukwu, Victor (Ass. secretary general)  and they affirmed that they knew nothing about the said ban. Director of socials in the person of Comr. Tamunosikima Adokiye Christian when called asked Gistmeust reporter how he got the information and that he needs to ask the president how true the information was.

Also speaking with the Financial secretary of the union in the person of Comr. Osigwe Promise, said he could not tell our reporter anything because he was busy.

The president's reasons for placing a ban on bottle beverages and sachet water is not a good one. If his reasons are enough then Federal government would had done that a long time ago.

The president placing a ban on bottle beverages which is sold for #60 and sachet water of #10 and approving only pet drinks which is sold for #100 - #120 and also bottle water which is sold for #60 then how can an average RSUST student enjoy his life on campus considering the recession?

Questions that arise are;

1. How often does fight occur on campus?
2. How many students have the money to buy pet coke/fanta/sprite etc. and even bottle water considering the economy of the country?
3. Does it mean that the president makes decisions on his own? if yes, then why would the Student Representative Council pass this bill or were they not also consulted?
