Students after the SUG president

It is no news that the issue of diary is a trending one both on campus and on social media as Students at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology have accused its union leaders of been skeptical of the economic condition of the country before re-introducing the annual diary which was introduced by the previous administration as it has stopped them from booking hostels.

The said issue has drawn the attention of the entire student community including the Faculty presidents' forum, National Union of Rivers State Students (the institution's chapter), ethnic houses and the school management.

The Student Union Diary is an annual project that was introduced by Comr. Oduah Christian Kelechukwu led administration . The diary contains information concerning the university, the Union executives and more.

Meanwhile, the Faculty president's Forum and President of the Nigerian Universities Engineering Student's Association (NUESA) in the person of Comr. Nwokocha Anyichukwu, stated that the idea was a good one but that Union should look at what other administrations had done i.e. the diary should be sold to only the first year students and the price should go for #1000 or less considering the increase in the student union dues.

What Value is it adding to An Average RSUST Student considering the economic condition of the country? If the student Union want to do such then it should be at the rate of #1000.

Most students have paid because they were subjected into pressure (that is, their page have been blocked). Students are not happy but because they have no choice than to pay because they want to get a hostel space. They are now using our money to paint the SUG secretariat.

Recently the student union dues which was #500 was increased to #1500. Now lets multiply this by 21,000 students on the average;
i.e. #1500 X 21000=31,500,000 (31.5 million Naira).

 Now lets multiply the #1500 diary X 21,000 students;
i.e. #1500 X 17000=31,500,000 (31.5 million Naira).

All these will amount to 63,000,000 (Sixty-three Million Naira).

 Recently the student union Government recently made a publication that all those selling on campus should come and register their business with the sum of #2,000. If we have a total of 200 on the average then this amounts to Four hundred thousand thousand Naira (400,000) and this is just for registration and not the actual money they pay per section.

We also believe that 70% of the student union executives are against this Diary project.

We believe that the Dean of Students' Affairs in the person of Dr. Isaac Zeb-Obipi and Prof. Blessing Didia Chimezie will look into this matter and review this Diary project as Students of this community do not have money for a thing that will not add value considering the economic condition.

I believe that student unionism was established so that the students can reach the management easily and to bring leadership and governance closer to the students.
