The issue of phone and laptop snatching has grown immensely as exams come closer.  It has always been a usual culture as cultists raid students on campuses especially during sug week, convocation, matriculation and during night classes.

Just last week during the matriculation some cultists were arraigned by some security operatives for snatching handsets from some students.

Yesterday night which some students titled “raid night” was a shock and frustrating night as students were ripped off their bags and phones at science faculty (SC.). In an interview with some of the victims they said the cultists came into their classes at about 2:30am early this morning with gun and knife. “They only collected our bags and phones without harming us” – one of the victims, name withheld.

Because these incidents, the fear of night classes has grown to the peak as students are afraid of losing their phones, laptops and bags to these thieves.

Sometimes I begin to wonder why some people would steal a phone when the days of phone snatching are gone. We all can recall the ALUU 4 Leaching incident which occurred on 5th Oct, 2012 at University of Port Harcourt and some many instances we can’t mention.

The major attack sites has always been Engineering faculty, Law, Sciences (along Med. Lab dept.) and Old site.

These issues has lead the school management to set securities and anyone of these thieves apprehended must face justice.

We are looking forward to having an interview with the SUG president and his executives, the DSA and the chief security officer.

We advise you don’t go with your laptops, phones and other valuable things until everything is under control.
