'Incoming Student Union Government will be fully armed' - Dr. ZEB

The incoming executives of the Student Union Government at the
Rivers State University of science and technology are to be sworn in tomorrow.<br />

This was made known by the Dean of students’ Affairs in a
media chat held earlier today. The inauguration which will mark the birth of a new Student
Union Government will place power in the hands of those who emerged winners
after the recent free and fair election conducted by the Faith Nnaa led Administration
and the Dean of students Affairs will hold tomorrow at the <b>VC Rm 2 (10am).</b></div>

During the media chat, the Dean of students Affairs in the
person of Dr. Isaac Zeb-Opibi disclosed that the incoming Government will be
fully armed with the revival of the Student Representative council (SRC) and
the Student Judicial council (SJC) in other to avoid embezzlement of funds. </div>

The innovative Dean In his speech further stated that act of
the suspended SUG boss was a result of incomplete government. He therefore urged
the student community to come and witness the great occasion which he titled ‘resurrection
of the student union government in RSUST’</div>

Meanwhile the Incoming SUG Boss in the person of Cmr Daniel
Alalibo Daminabo popularly known as DAD has affirmed that his government will
be a quintessential of Student Unionism in Nigerian Universities. He further
stated that in his administration, politics will not conflict administration.

Students of  Lagos State University College of Medicine yesterday protested against the management of the college at the Governor’s Office in Alausa, Lagos.<br />

A student, who identified himself as Tunde, said he had been in the institution for about nine years due to the poor management of the college.<br /><br />He said the students were angry that the funds released by the state Governor to address the issues in the institution had not been properly utilised by the Ministry of Health and the school management.<br />

 <br /><br />    The AU Envoy in Nigeria, Dr Tunji Asaolu, gave the indication on Monday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the Director- General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Sule Kazaure.<br /><br />    Asaolu noted that the NYSC was the only body that could help the Federal Government to reduce the burden of unemployment in Nigeria.<br /><br />    “We want to partner NYSC, using corps members to run teachers volunteer scheme and use these teachers in a survey and those who perform well will be retained.<br /><br />    “We are encouraging people to develop skills in production and agriculture; our partnership will create jobs, enrich the economy and develop the country at large.<br /><br />    “NYSC can be richer than Dangote because it is accepted in all parts of the country.<br /><br />    “Some programmes that can help engage youths are Africa Youth Volunteer Corps, Pan Africa Safety Commission and so on.<br /><br />    “With the intervention programmes that we have, we will see how we can subsidise to enable us to achieve the goal,’’ Asaolu said.<br /><br />    Asaolu said that if corps members were making and using products made by NYSC, the organisation could become a big company of its own.<br /><br />    Responding, Kazaure, pledged to key into the partnership and added that a technical committee had been set up to meet with the AU.<br /><br />    He said NYSC was ready to partner AU to empower and improve the lives of Nigerians. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in collaboration with the proprietors of private tertiary institutions, and other relevant stakeholders have set a date as the deadline for completion of the 2016 admissions into universities and other tertiary institutions in the country.<br /><br />In a statement issued by the board registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the deadline was set at November 30, 2016.<br /><br />The JAMB Registrar also assured that the Board would not in any way interfere with the list of candidates sent by institutions for 2016 candidates admissions, either by addition or subtraction of names.<br /><br />According to Oloyede, the meeting was convened to discuss the issue of suitable placements of qualified candidates into tertiary institutions, taking into consideration the available vacancies, respective institution, approved guidelines, preference expressed for the institutions and courses by the candidates.<br /><br />He maintained that the 2016 admissions will be as smooth as ever, even as all other processes remain the same except that there won’t be written post-UTME test as a result of the recent abolition of the test by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu.<br /><br />Oloyede challenged the stakeholders to focus on what is beneficial to the largest number of Nigerians, and also to avoid adding to the burden of the masses yearning for higher education as a veritable means to active participation in public life.<br />

The Federal Polytechnic Bida in Niger State on Wednesday said it had concluded arrangements to introduce 16 new courses.<br /><br />The Rector of the institution, Dr Abubakar Dzukogi, made this known after receiving the Africa Meritorious Service Award by the Africa Leadership Transparency Initiative (ALTI) in Bida.<br /><br />Dzukogi listed the new courses to include welding and fabrication, taxation, insurance, mechatronic, pharmaceutical technology, nutrition, leisure and tourism and computer engineering.<br /><br />Others are horticulture technology, financial mathematics, library and information technology, local government studies, industrial and labour relation and crop production technology‎.<br /><br />He said that the courses would begin in the 2016/2017 academic session of the institution.<br /><br />He added that "we are adding 16 programmes; we have done all the paper work and the regulatory body will soon be coming to assess our resources so that we can start immediately‎.<br /><br />"If things go according to plan, we should start running the new programmes when the new session commences later in the year," he said.<br /><br />The rector dedicated the award to staff and students of the school, adding that it would spur him to greater things.<br /><br />In his remarks, the ALTI President, Mr Mike Olorunfemi, said that the award was in recognition of the rector's giant strides since he assumed work about a year ago.<br /><br />He said that the group conducted performance evaluation and assessment of administrators of tertiary institutions in the country and Bida Poly came out on top.<br /><br />"The rector has repositioned the school and initiated laudable projects and we are happy to identify with this man of excellence<br /><br />"We hope that by the time he completes his tenure, he will have taken this institution to‎ its desired height.''

Some people said the standard of education is falling as our students are no longer studying as like of old. I said it is a big lie. Infact I observed from some collection of past questions that the questions set in OAU in a particular course tend to be tougher nowadays than in the past.<br />

Those questions were relatively cheaper than the current ones set by the lecturers as test in current time. But yet, some students still got A's and very high CGPA. At that occasion,18 students received their cash from the dean of the faculty, Dr. Uzochukwu Ikemefuna. Beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme, according to the stipulated condition, were students whose cumulative point grades were four points and above and for one to continue to enjoy the scheme, the student must sustain the grade throughout his stay in the university, otherwise it would be given to another person. Two officials of Senator Andy Uba Foundation, Dr. Charles Nweke, who is a director in the foundation, and Professor Alex Asigbo, coordinator, were on hand to ensure that the money was actually handed over to the rightful beneficiaries.<br />
<br />
 According to Nweke, the scholarship was to enable the students pay their school fees and attend to other financial problems. Fortunately for the beneficiaries, the school fees in UNIZIK are far below the worth of the scholarship. For instance, school fees paid by students in the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences is about N30,000, which means that they have some money to attend to their other needs after paying the official fee. Coordinator of the Foundation, Professor Asigbo said it was not the intention of the senator to use the scholarship scheme to advance his political career, adding that it was for that reason that he decided not to make the disbursement to the benefiriaries of the scholarship scheme during political campaigns.<br />

He added that Senator Uba’s interest in the welfare of students in the state would not end with Anambra South senatorial zone, adding that he would ultimately extend it to the other two senatorial zones of Anambra North and Anambra Central and to other tertiary institutions in the state. He also recalled that Senator Uba single-handedly built the magnificent Mass Communication building of Nnamdi Azikiwe University and had been assisting in the general development of education in Anambra State. Senator Andy Uba Senator Andy Uba Two of the beneficiaries, Mr. Peter Muchie and Miss Chinelo Okafor commended the senator for the gesture, noting that many of them never believed it would be a reality when they applied for the scholarship scheme.<br />

Muchie, a 400 –level student from Nanka in Orumba North North Local Government said: “When I applied for the scholarship, I never knew it would turn out to be real, considering my experience in applying for other advertized scholarships. The Director General of the Nigerian Law School (NLA), Professor Olanrewaju Onadeko (SAN), has lamented that some lawyers were now in the habit of sitting for examinations for students in the law school.<br /><br /><br />He said some had already been caught in the act and the students involved awaiting disciplinary measures.<br /><br />Onadeko made the disclosure in Port Harcourt on Thursday while presenting the report of the school at the on-going 56th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).<br /><br />“Some lawyers were caught sitting as surrogates for students at the Nigerian Law School. Among other students suspended were the Students Union President, the General Secretary, the Financial Secretary, the Sport Secretary, the Speaker of the parliament, and other student leaders who participated in the peaceful protest of April 6th and 8th 2016, which led to the suspension of the Students Union.<br />

It’s unique in the sense that, he is suspended for merely criticizing the leadership of the institution on their inability to manage situations as “democrats”. I now see the reason for the backwardness of my Nation, we blame those at the corridor of “power” forgetting those at the corridor of “education”; the corridor of “common sense “.I am a discussant of History and it has made me realise that from time immemorial, whenever there is problem in the society ,tertiary institutions are places of solace,they are citadels of solutions.<br />

Government would go to schools to consult undergraduates, lecturers; professors as they posed to be the backbone of the society. Now, Nigeria is in shambles, the economy is crumbling, where is Dr Nduibisi Nwokoma of the Economics department?, Buhari is still waiting for your economic model computation and those econometrics rubbish theories you teach your students.<br />

Prof. G.L Oyekan!.., there is infrastructural decay!. Prof. Idoro Godwin, buildings are collapsing and projects are poorly handled!. This is not project planning class where you come to disturb students with your unending battery of questions e.g What is Objective? ..answer- Objective is ….Question 2- What is “is”?. What a comedian! .<br />
Vice Chancellor sir!, you remain a first class Chemical engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.What has happened to the Great Ife in you!. Our power generation is deteriorating and you are alive . The Nation’s investment of knowledge on you to make you a scholar is a WASTE. That’s by the way,the protest that led to Senate’s resolution to dissolve the Student Union and the forceful blood covenant Oath-taking was a peaceful one. One that started on a calm note with the intention to end in a day only if the DSA or VC came to talk to the students during the act. The Egocentricity of an African man would not just allow them to come, They are PhD holders. I call them ACADEMIC IGNORAMUSES! .<br />

The irresponsibility, insensitivity and irresponsiveness to the welfare of the students of the VC and his misMANAGEMENT have shown that they are all misfits when it comes to parenthood.<br />
They all stood up when the former mistake we had as president tried to rename Unilag to Maulag because the brand UNILAG gives them the pride they need to sleep with any girl-student and admission-seekers effortlessly. These are the goings-on in Unilag, let the world know!. The likes of Ogbinaka Karo were ready to tear down the nation if the renaming was not revoked. Now,this is our own issue; Welfarism, we can’t find them. Are they telling me that the Name issue is greater than Welfarism. Is the aesthetics of a building more important than the structural stability? , If you don’t know, go ask the MD, Lekki Gardens.<br />
My secondary school teacher once told me that during his days at the University of Ibadan, they protested when the chicken on their breakfast meal was reduced to 1 instead of the usual 2. For Christ’s sake ,was it this same Nigeria? .We never asked for all these things Bello and his cohorts enjoyed,all we asked for was water/light and all we could get from a sensible Senate is the threat of expulsion. Are there no “common sense” persons in the management anymore? .We mourn late Prof. Ayodele Awojobi freshly..<br />
I promised not to make this too lengthy but I stand in this era for change as I don’t want to be much too a victim of circumstances because I have never gained anything from this system of education. I learn everything myself just like most of us. My lecturers are too busy to teach but are very ready to threaten you with failure. Where is Julius Faremi? .<br />

The Abia State Executive Council has approved N10,000 reduction of the Abia State University (ABSU) school fees for Abia indigenes in ABSU.<br /><br />Also approved is the immediate relocation of the Faculties of Law and Humanities to Umuahia while Faculty of Engineering is to be relocated to Aba.<br /><br />The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Strategy, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha disclosed these while addressing journalists after this week's EXCO meeting. The Commissioner informed that the reduction in school fees was to encourage poor and needy Abia indigenes to go to school, adding that each student from Abia would prove his identity by presentation of tax receipts of their parents or guidance and biometrically.<br /><br />Comrade Iwuoha further said that in an effort to improve IGR in the State, government has withdrawn all previous approval given to MDAs which permitted them to collect all forms of revenue, saying that, henceforth, all such money should be paid into the IGR account made available by the BIR.<br /><br />According to the Information boss, rehabilitation of Umuahia water project is on and it will serve Umuahia North, Umuahia South and Ikwuano, while steps are are on to restore water supply in Aba.<br /><br />Also work has commenced in Ohambele, where 100,000 oil palm seedlings have been planted with hope that Abia will become one of the major producers of palm oil.<br /><br />On education, the 1st phase of the free school meal programme has successfully been tested and the 2nd phase will take place when schools resume.<br /><br />The EXCO also approved the enforcement of State and Local government joint projects, especially to ensure rural roads are fixed.

A final year PAE student of UNIZIK, Awka was caught in the female hostel of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, block A by 3:45am trying to rape an inmate.<br /><br />However, luck ran out of him when the girl raised alarm as she kept shouting on top of her voice. In an attempt to escape, a security man gave him a chase, <b>he jumped  from the second floor of the hostel and fell into the gutter unknowingly and  sustained a gruesome injuries .</b><br /><br />Meanwhile details getting to us now have it that he is reported to be in the University Medical center as the doctors are struggling to save his life. His chances of making it alive is undoubtedly very slim.<br /><br />May God help him……<br />

The University of Ilorin invites candidates who applied for admission into the undergraduate degree programmes of the University for the 2016/17 academic session to upload the required information for the Screening Exercise between 25 TH August and 5 th September, 2016. All results intended for use for 2016 admission must be uploaded not later than 5 th September 2016 when the portal shall be closed.<br />Important notice:<br />1. Candidates awaiting any result should not apply please.<br />2. As part of the screening exercise, candidates are expected to follow instructions and accurately enter the required information. False submission of information/results will attract automatic disqualification<br />3. Successful candidates would be communicated via e-mail and SMS.<br />The following categories of candidates are eligible:<br />1. A. UTME Candidates who made the University of Ilorin their first choice and scored:<br />(i) a minimum of 180 in the UTME for courses other than those listed in (ii) below and also have five (5) O/L Credits in Mathematics, English Language and other three (3) relevant subjects at not more than two sittings;<br />(ii) for MB;BS; Optometry and Vision Science, Five (5) O/L Credits in Mathematics, English Language and other three (3) relevant subjects at not more than one sitting .<br />1. B. DIRECT ENTRY Candidates who made the University of Ilorin their first choice and have obtained a minimum of:<br />(i) Upper Credit at OND/HND where applicable. However, Statistics, Agriculture, Performing Arts and History and International Studies, may consider lower Credit. Only Computer Science accepts HND for admission into 200 Level.<br />(ii) Merit in two (2) relevant NCE subjects (where applicable);<br />(iii) A minimum of 6 points in the two relevant subjects in IJMB, NABTEB, GCE, Cambridge or equivalent;<br />(iv) (a) 13 points at A/L in IJMB, NABTEB, GCE or Cambridge of equivalent in Physics, Chemistry and Biology for MB;BS; or<br />(b) Second Class (Upper Division) Honours Degree in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physiology, Zoology or any other relevant courses in the Life Sciences.<br />1. When you enter some of the rooms in these lodges, u begin to wonder if the occupants are students like you, the room setting is something else, much effort and finance is put into "pimping" the room than in feeding. They are the non academic students. Going to school for most of them is like a hard nut to crack, they come to school any day they like and you can always find them at the back of the class asking if any assignment has been given yet and copying borrowed notes. Guys who stay in Amaokpala can be very funny and troublesome most times especially twin tower guys, they hoot at any girl that passes by them and pass annoying funny remarks about them. They are usually the front sitters in the class because before u even think of waking up in the morning, they are already in class seated comfortably, even their bags have a seat. Most NDI students live there especially those from prison break homes whose parents insist they must live close to school, if possible inside the classrooms. They really think Its by living close to school, ask Ezugo babes, you will know that they have rooms in almost all the lodges in school. If u are a guy going to visit a girl that lives in up school, u don't really have to be scared of anything at all, all it will take is one bottle of chilled zobo and egg roll or Abacha #100 or even okpa (very hot one). They are not too demanding at all.<br />Well, you will love the up school guys in terms of dressing. They compete with wizkid in a childish manner. They fly colours like kids learning how to draw with postal colours. They like showing off but can hardly afford it. They dress to lectures like its nite club. Every registered member of NURSS RSUST CHAPTER shall be eligible to be delegated to vote and/or nominated to be voted for in an election into any of the posts specified in this constitution; provided.<br />a) HE is not a final year or first year student as at the date of the election.<br />b) He is not disqualified by any provision of this constitution.<br />c) He has not been expelled or suspended by any University authorities for any offence EXCEPT STUDENT UNION ACTIVITIES, prior to this election in RSUST or any other institution of higher learning.<br />d) He is not a member of any nocturnal or secret society or any association that is not duly registered or recognized by the institution.<br />e) Any aspiring candidate for any elective office in NURSS RSUST Chapter must have a C.G.P.A. of not less than 3.00<br />2. The NURSS Identity Card, NURSS Receipt, L.GA. Identification Letter, and School Identity Card shall be used in voting in any election into the Executive Council.<br />3. Voting shall be by open secret ballot.<br />4. Election shall be by delegates drawn from each of the seven blocs forwarded by the Bloc Heads to the Electoral Committee.<br />5. Delegates to vote in every election from each bloc shall be at least ten (10) who duly registered members of NURSS RSUST Chapter are.<br />
