MANIFESTO

Greatest upon the greatest, un-intimidated, ever conscious and aluta conscious R.S.U.S.T student
I remain my humble self, Joseph Mathias Akpanke, from the faculty of engineering, marine department level 300.I am running for the position of the director of sports in the students union
Government of this great and humble university of excellence and creativity.

    My main drive for the position is the love and passion I have for sports in general. which I have shown the love and spirit of sportsmanship since my inception into the institution by participating in sports competitions and activities carried out on campus such as Vc’s cup, Deans cup, Hostel competition, Volley ball matches to mention but a few.

    Before I let the cat out of the bag, I would like to give us some food for thought.
•    For how long would we let the sport in R.S.U.S.    T be only an S.U.G week thing?
•    For how long would we concentrate on only an aspect of sports (football).
•    For how long would our student keep registering to gym in the hostels?
•    Why can’t we have a sporting complex?
•    Would it be a crime if R.S.U.S.T is fully represented in the inter schools competitions such as NUGA games.

    The answers to these questions are in the decisions we make today!                                   
    I, Joseph Mathias Akpanke a sportsman that is driven by passion; if by the grace of God I happen to emerge as the Director Of Sports, I pledge an allegiance to provide feasible answers to these questions.   

       My vision is tagged ‘’ RAINS’’ which means to Restore, Awake, Inspire and Nurture spirit of sportsmanship on campus. If I happen to win by God’s grace, I will ensure that sport is picked up from the grass root, and brought to spot light and also to ensure that the impact of U.S.T sportsmen is felt heavily in the state and the nation at large.

Also I will try my best with the help of the executive and management to ensure that incentives and benefits are attached to every registered sports man in U.S.T i.e. to make sure that all sports that are at our disposal are fully exploited and felt, example swimming, football, racing, volleyball, table tennis, lawn tennis, weight lifting etc.

I would also ensure that all the courts, pitch and sports facilities are refurbished and made to standards to the best of our ability as a team.   

       I would also try to see that the land proposed for our sporting complex is no longer vacant through the help I and the exco’s that emerge would get from the management, firms, company and state.

I would like to ask us all this questions, ‘’on our time table, there is a time designated for sports but you will agree with me, that the part of the time table has been ignored. Also, you would agree with me that there are rooms designated for sports in our various hostels [games room] but instead of using these rooms for the various purposes, they are now designated for students to stay in .These and many more I wish to achieve in the period of time I would serve as the director of sports.

    Even the Holy Book says ‘’can two walk together without agreeing on a direction’’? The answer is ‘’no’’. Therefore I put it to you that all these visions cannot be achieved without you.
   
I urge us all to carefully scrutinise and vote the right man for the job. I believe and know that if I am elected as the Director of sports, I would work and serve the great students of R.S.U.S.T.
