MANIFESTO PRESENTATION BY Iyogo Douglas For Director Of Transport

My manifesto as an aspirant...
Distinguished students of RSUST...Great!.
I am Iyogo Douglas King from Abua/Odual Local Government Area Of Rivers State, A three hundred level student (300) from the Department of Urban And Regional Planning, Faculty of Environmental Sciences aspiring for the position of Transport and equipment secretary.


The environment in which we find ourselves is such a large one as it encompasses people with different characters who will always want to react to changes that occur in their surroundings, as a student of transportation planning  from the department of Urban and regional planning we believe that transportation is a key in the development of any nation, as it is actually what brings life to an area because if any area is in accessed, their is no way that development can go into such an area which will cause the value of properties within that area to depreciate.
Over time I have observed some little challenges in the transport department of the school which ought not to be, such challenges like;
o     Not informing the students before adding the fare price
o     Drivers Using abusive words on the student.
o    No defined parking terminal
o     Improper parking
o    No zebra lines to indicate passage
o    Lack of Direction signs.
o    Inadequate provision of walk ways e.t.c
The reason i am aspiring for this position is because as a student of regional planning who has acquired basic knowledge in transportation  planning and other areas in the built environment, I do believe that the right things should be at the right  places and at the right time for the right people.
This position is important as it involves proper analysis of movement around the school environment and adequate policy formulation with updating where necessary for the benefit of Students and staffs who will at different times apply the transportation routes.
If elected into this position as the director of transport i will do the following;
1.Work with other members of the student executive council.
The reason behind this is because when we work as a team we achieve more, but when divided nothing good can be achieved using the broom situation as an illustration.
2.Proper safety of students when in a vehicle.
Over the years you will observe that some vehicles at the transport department are not properly maintained with incidents of only the  driver been able to open the doors then I begin to ask myself how about emergency situations what becomes the fate of the student?. I will like to address this issue by having meetings with the drivers and urging them to go for repairs of their vehicle.
3.INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS (STUDENTS).
To a large extent I don't see a relationship between drivers and students as some drivers like using abusive words on students for issues that are minor. To address this issue i intend to create a platform were students can register with the park authority for a semister basis and be issued a ticket which is to cover them for that said period. The reason for this is to end drivers insulting students because of their fare balance.
4.TERMINAL UPGRADING
If you observe spatially the environment of the school, you will observe the presence of bus terminals which are not been in use,  Because this is important i will try to see how management can effectively upgrade these terminals and add new once like in Law faculty and Engineering so students can drop/board at appropriate places.
5.The driver as a security personal
Because security is everyone's business, it is important that more persons be involved. In achieving this i intend to make the driver a security reporter as he can tour the school environment at different times in a day.

6. PROPER FLOW OF INFORMATION FROM THE TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT TO STUDENTS.
7. DROPPING AT THE NEAREST POINT TO CLASS
8. USE OF THE STUDENT VEHICLE TO CARRY STUDENTS IN THE EARLY HOURS OF THE DAY FOR AT LEAST 3 TIMES A WEEK.
9. PREPARE A DETAIL MAP OF THE SCHOOL SHOWING THE SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT OF UTILITIES, FACILITIES AND SERVICE.
At this stage i will say is a big dream but only I can't do it as it will require  you voting for me. Please vote for IYOGO DOUGLAS KING for Director of Transport this Friday because is only your vote that will make the difference.
