Twelve graduating students from the University of Calabar, today has graduated with first class in the 1st degree category. This was disclosed today by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof Zana Itiunbe Akpagu during the institution's 29th Convocation ceremony in Calabar.


He also revealed an automatic employment to be given to the 12 first class awardees. The vice chancellor announced also, the award of 4, 868 students with 1st degrees, 952 students with higher degrees and 1,402 students with diplomas out of 7,222 students of the university while urging them to be good ambassadors to both the university and the Nigerian state at large.

The event also witnessed the award of some individuals in the state who has distinguished themselves as well as been supportive to the overall development of the university. They include the former Governor of the state, Donald Duke who was honored for transforming Cross River State, and a former senator, Florence Ita-Giwa, for her immense contributions to the women folk.

The convocation ceremony is a round-off of the universities 29th convocation activities which began on March 9th, 2016.
University of Calabar, a federal institution of learning was established in 1975.
