Lecturer suspended for raping student

A lecturer was caught sexually assaulting a female student. He has been detained pending completion of investigation on the matter.
Management at the the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, has suspended a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration for allegedly raping an ND1 student in the department.

According to Punch reports, the alleged rapist was caught in the act.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, Bala Elkana who confirmed the incident, added that the lecturer will be detained in a police custody pending the completion of investigation.

Elkana also added that the victim had been receiving treatment at the school medical centre. The lecturer, meanwhile will be paid a half of his salary as the investigations go on.

“It is true that there have been an allegation of rape against one of our lecturers. The case has been referred to the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee for investigation and recommendation.

“The alleged crime is also being investigated by the police. The official has been suspended and will also receive half salary pending the outcome of the committee’s investigation.”

Punch also gathered that there has been a series of sexual harassment complaints against the lecturer by female students before being caught raping on of them
