As a result of the recent proposed plan for the system of
voting to be used in the upcoming 2016 SUG election which will take place on 24th
June, 2016, some aspirants have reacted to the plan as an opportunity for the
school management to hijack the SUG.
This issue has raised concerns among students, comrades and
faculty presidents in the student community as some want it and others do not
want it.
According to some of the aspirants who were present at the
Dinner/Award night organized by Faculty of Science last night at the Silverbird
Lounge, “the SUG is not for the school management but for the Students. And it
is for the students’ interest alone”.
Speaking with one of the Faculty presidents Cmr. Wisdom
Baridah, he stated that the e-voting will do more harm than good. “if the
school management want to be fair enough then a general election by ballot
should be done. We don’t want a situation where we all will think we are voting
while the results are already on ground”
He further stated that every student should embrace the
ballot election system and where this fails then delegate election should come
in.
Some of the aspirants who spoke with us during the event
said they were not happy with the new system as it will favour only those whose
parents or relatives work with the school management or the ICT.
“We know it’s been long we expressed our franchise but expressing
our franchise through the e-voting system will only make the system more
corrupt than the delegate election. If the school management want to be
credible enough the ballot system should be used. If the school management is
not ready for the ballot system then they should wait until next session. If the
e-voting comes to stay, then be rest assured that the election will be highly
influenced by the school management”
Also Present at the event was the Ag. President of the
Student Union Government and the Assist Sec. General.
The issue is a strong one. We the GISTMEUST team are making it possible to get to at least one of the Deans of any Faculty so we can get their own suggestion
Now the Gist me ust team is being fair. You have to be radical in your view. Also report from the Students angle. Finally you do not need a reaction from any Dean because a Dean is part of management.
ReplyDeleteWe support the e voting system simple. Every student has the right to vote not 140 people go there and play that thing they do asking by me wine buy these and that, pls if you are an aspirant them campaign and the students will login and vote you
