Any Union leader that Embezzles fund should not be given a second chance - Lawsan President Elect.

It’s no news that misappropriation of funds is a major problem when we talk about student unionism in the Rivers State University of Science and Technolgy. This subject matter is one that has rocked the landscape for long time with no fewer than three major incidents within the last decade, the most recent still fresh in our memories in the immediate past student Union Executive council.

This issue was given voice by a well respected student union leader, currently the LAWSAN President Elect Comr. Tamuno Victor when he was confronted with questions on the issue by our reporter in an interview.

This subject matter using the immediate past student union government as a case study took precedence amongst other issues that finally resulted in the indefinite suspension of Comr. Gospel Wealth from the presidential seat and our emeritus madam becoming the acting President. Now with clouds thick with suspicion, rumors and allegations of this menace in the Comr. Daminabo led administration, Gistmeust decided to sample the opinion of student union leaders on campus.

Firstly comr. Tamuno Victor acknowledged the fact that actually fund embezzlement or misappropriation as the case may be is in existence in R.S.U.S.T unionism but did not mix word when he condemned the act as well as union leaders who involve themselves in such dubious act, quoting the faculty of law boss…

Buttressing  on the issue he opined that somebody that is not faithful in little cannot be faithful in much as such he believes that unionism is a stepping stone to greater responsibilities outside the university community and for that singular reason any one that shows unfaithfulness as a union leader should never be given a second chance.

He said for himself he would advice his colleagues to desist from such acts as it’s a great show of irresponsibility of which he knows himself to be responsible.

GISTMEUST: Is there any mechanism to expose these actions where they happen or we just have to rely on faith or chance?

LAWSAN: For now there are no such mechanism so faith and chance are all we have for now but we can create a body to review the internal activities of our unions to expose these issues in future but for now we have to rely on chance and also the media within the school can help to a large extent, I mean Gistmeust, Radioust etc to bring these issues to the public but they should not also abuse the process by engaging in what I call senseless criticism.

GISTMEUST: How would you react to an allegation from any of these media houses as a leader on campus?

As a leader I will accept such criticism true or false as normal because any media that does not criticize is a monument, because it is not doing its job. If true they will be corrected immediately but if false no matter how angry I might be, I will go back to the same media to debunk the criticism with the truth. I hate violence with a passion and it’s good to be a friend of the media as a leader because they can make and break you. (He gives a quote)

However, the president elect. stated that a good leader must live by example.
