#30k Hostel Fee - Is it really Worth It?

It's conspicuous that the Rivers State University of Science and Technology has one of the best hostels Nigeria. Filled with guys that make you laugh till you go naughty.

 The management of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology led by Prof. Blessing Didia Chimezie Alias Prof. BCD has taken a decision to allocate its hostel to students of the institution at the rate of #30,000 per bunk as opposed to the former price of #20,000 beginning 2016/2017 academic session.


The Dean of Student Affairs (Rivers State University of Science and Technology) in the person of Dr. Isaac Zeb-Obipi in a telephone interview with Gistmeust.com as regards the said issue, stated reasons why the school management decided to increase the price from #20,000 to #30,000 in-spite the economic condition of the state.

The Dean in his speech stated that it was important for the university to renovate the hostels each session. The university is also affected by the recession he added.

The Dean in his speech;

We are not skeptical of the economic condition of the state but we are trying to add value to the student community with it comes to hostel accommodation. We are replacing the toilet sits, taps, bulbs, switches and we are also installing fans in all the rooms. We want a situation where the risk of toilet infection will be reduced. We are giving the students Value for their money. We also hire cleaners that will clean the toilets and bathrooms so as to keep the hostel area clean and free from bad smell.

The Dean when asked why Hostels are not being renovated at the end of each session rather than beginning of each session so as to ease the stress of spending much transport to school for those who come to school from far distance, stated that the renovations are done with the fees  paid by students at the beginning of each semester.

He therefore assured students that the management will never take advantage of the economic condition to gullible the students rather it will continue to provide the best "value" at an affordable rate.

Furthermore, he explained that the clearance fee is used for purchasing items like bleach, mob, detergent and hand brush that are used for the weekly sanitation exercise across all hostels.

The Dean also assured the students to stay calm as that the hostels will be opened by next week.

Meanwhile the president of the National Union of Rivers State Students (Rivers State University of Science and Technology) in the person of Comr. Caleb Emmanuel Alias HOD spoke with one of our media correspondent has stated that NURSS supports the #30, 000 hostel fee as it will add value to the student community. In his words;

To the best of my knowledge, The School Management wants a better and conducive hotel accommodation for student and this is what they are doing. Let the Students be Patient. The status of the Hostel will be far better than what they use to know.
