NURSS 48Hours Ultimatum to SUG Elapsed - What Next As NURSS Decides to Take Action

It is three days since the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS), Rivers State University of Science and Technology Chapter released a communique asking the Student Union Government to reverse some decisions it took few weeks back.

According to the communique, the Union gave the Student Union Government 48hours (Monday14th to Wednesday 16th November, 2016) to unblocked the pages of all Rivers state students for the compulsory diary fee of one thousand Five hundred Naira which the SUG imposed on the students before they could access their portals. Also that the Student Union Government should reverse the cost of transportation from N40 back to N30.

OUR STAND:
1. The National Union of Rivers State Students condemns the act of imposing a COMPULSORY diary on the stuents
2. We condemn the act of blocking the pages of all students for a COMPULSORY diary fee.
3. Lastely, we condemn the increment of transportation on campus.

OUR DEMANDS:
1. The National Union of Rivers State Students demands that the pages of students be unblocked and let them have access to their pages
2. We demand that the COMPULSORYdiary fee shouldn’t be imposed on the students and that the purchase of the diary should be based on discretion.
3. Lastly, we demand that the cost of transportation be returned back to its status-quo, it should move from N40 back to N30.

The National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) is giving an ULTIMATUM of 48 hours, starting from today Monday14thNovember, 2016. to Wednesday 16th November, 2016. For implementation of these demands to avoid a Legal action against the Student Union Government (SUG).

According to the president of the union, in the person of Comr. Caleb Emmanuel while briefing our reporter at the congress held yesterday said the time given to the Student Union Government had expired and Nothing had been done. Rivers State Students are not happy, we are suffering in our own institution for the laws those we voted into power made - He further stated.

It could be recalled that the diary initiated by the SUG had deprived most student from paying fees and hostel accommodation.

According to some reports we gathered some students cried and reported to management but nothing was done as regards the said issue.

In as much as the Student Union Government claims that the diary is of importance but what is it value considering the economic condition of the country.

We should be talking about reducing the cost of living on campus as these sellers on campus are exploiting students when they have nothing to lose if they sell at a reduced price.

What action do you think NURSS will take as regards this isssue?
