We do not have any plan of conducting a ballot Election – DSA

The electoral committee has taken its decision that it will not conduct a general election by Ballot for the upcoming 2016 SUG election.

This was disclosed to one of our correspondents through a media chat by the Dean of Students' Affairs earlier this afternoon.

The Dean of students’ affairs while briefing our correspondent disclosed that the electoral committee do not have any plan of conducting the 2016 SUG election by Ballot rather it will be by e-voting.

The dean, Dr. Isaac Zeb-Obipi in his speech said that the school management does not have the logistics to run a general election by ballot. He also said that the security needed for a general election is not an easy one as the school cannot take the peril of trying such:

For this reason we have proposed a system that will favour all irrespective of their location, faculty or department. A system where everyone will be happy at last.

The Dean, when pressed further on how he is able to ensure that the e-voting system will not be hijacked by the school management said the e-voting is a method that will go live and there is no way it can be compromised.

The aspirants, their representatives, I and the media will be in the control room watching the votes as they come in. We are making sure that there are e-voting centers across all the seven (7) faculties on the day of the election. So there is no need to be afraid of the school management hijacking the Election.
