As the 2016/2017 SUG Election draws near, the Electoral committee are still on the fence of choosing which method of voting to be used.

The electoral committee headed by the Dean of Students' Affairs in the person of Chief Dr. Zeb Obipi is yet to decide if it will continue with the normal method of voting which is the Delegate Election or an improved, fare and violence-free method, thereby introducing the E-voting system.
Speaking with the GISTMEUST Team, the Chairman of the electoral committee, said the E-voting is aimed at conducting a free and fare election and also a violence free election.
The electoral committee has witnessed a general election using an E-voting system as proposed by Cinefores yesterday. We had plans of considering a general election using ballot but we as an E-university cannot condescend to going back to what we have passed. Also the materials may not arrive early considering the limited time we have. The E-voting system will be fully introduced to the SUG and the entire students community before the election date.
The chairman further explained that in the E-voting process, students have the oppurtunity of voting who they want rather than 140 persons representing the entire student community. In this process, the students will use their E-campus username and password to vote at the comfort of their homes, hostels or classrooms.

The chairman when asked of their plans in handling the network and bandwidth said that has been put unto consideration and that the electoral committee is still evaluating the challenges.

He further said,
We have taken time to look at the methods available to us, it's pros and cons and we will make sure we strike a balance before deciding. The committee are still on the matter and we will make sure we walk in accordance with the Union's constitution. Because we have not decided on which method to use we are still asking the faculties to submit the names of their delegates. We have also given students the chance to vote on which method the prefer.
Also speaking on the election issue, Cyril Wagbara, senior lecturer faculty of Law after the just concluded LAWSAN election yesterday said:
It is high time we embraced a change in the electoral process. For years the SUG election has been a mess as only delegates are allowed to vote. We want a congress election so students can fully participate in the election.
It is time we tried something new. Let us give DSA and his electoral committee a chance.
