Annual Codec Engineering Competition -RSUST

The annual Engineering competition has come and gone again in the Rivers State University of Science And Technology Rivers State.

The Schools that contested in this year’s competition are:

·         FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM RESOURCES WARRI

·         IGBINEDION UNIIVERSITY OKADA BENIN

·         RIVERS STATE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY RIVERS STATE

·         UNIVERSITY OF UYO AKWA IBOM STATE

The competition was of two categories, Individual presentation and Group presentation.

The following persons participated in the individual presentation

MACDEAN JACK from Igbinedion University Okada Benin, presented an Automated Wire Drawing Machine

JOSEPH CHIBUZO  also from Igbinedion University Okada Benin, presented an Induction cooker using DC supply (ie can be used without electricity)

CHIKE KENNETH CHIJIOKE also from Igbinedion University Okada Benin presented a Micro Controller used in detecting pipeline vanderlisation.

IBINABO HARCOURT BRIGGS also from Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt presented a Speech operated lifting machine.

GODWIN VICTOR from Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt presented An Improved Miniaturized Hearing Aid device.

AKANIMO JIMMY from Federal University Uyo, presented a GSM / Andriod base control system of Electrical Appliances, (used to control all appliances using electricity).

For the group presentaions, each of the schools that came for the competition presented a project or the other. Starting from

The rules guiding the competition are as follows:

1.       A Dean from a particular school will not grade his school

2.       Time management, Judgment will be based on what is New, Scientific, and how they contribute to the society.

After all presentation, for the individual category Akanimo Jimmy of University of Uyo came out first position followed by Jack and was presented with a cheque of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000). The second position went home with Thirty Thousand Naira and also the third person went home with Twenty Thousand Naira.

While for the group category, Rivers State University of Science And Technology emerges as the winner, followed by University of Uyo. The School, being Rivers State University of Science And Technology will also be representing the Region in the fourth coming National Engineering competition in Abuja, Federal capital territory, Nigeria.

The competition came to an end with certificate presentation to the various winners from the two categories which later ended with a closing remark by the Regional Director Of Codec Prof. Ayo Tamuno.
