The
Mass communication Students Association (MACOSA) at the Rivers State
University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt has inaugurated her
first Executive Cabinet in close to nine years through a Care Taker
Committee.
The new Care Taker Committee is
chaired by Okene Darlington, a 300 level students of the department
while Wikere Miriam Besadee is to serve as Vice chairperson.
Other
Members of the Care Taker Cabinet include, Uchenwo O. Clifford, is to
serve as Secretary General .Thompson Ferdinand is the Director of
Socials while Learning and Boma is to serve as Welfare Secretary and
Treasurer respectively.
Speaking
at the inauguration ceremony which took place on Monday, 29th at the
department of Mass Communication, the Head of Department Mass
Communication of Department, Dr.Fred Amadi who was un- avoidably absent
as such was represented by Tom Big Harry, a lecturer in the department
advised the newly appointed Excos to put in their best in serving the
interest of the students having been so appointed to mediate and ensure a
cordial relationship between students in the department and its
management. He equally admonished them not lose focus of their academic
pursuit which he maintained was their primary purpose of being in the
university.
Similarly, the MACOSA
Students Staff Adviser, Mr Umor Ebenezer also charged the new Excos to
work collectively as a team in order to attain their set objectives.
In
his remark, the pioneer of the MACOSA Resuscitation Project and
Chairman of the Mass Communication Stakeholders Forum, Comr. Peterside
Bright S.T. expressed joy over the development which he said was relief
after many years of battle over the resuscitation of the departmental
students body through the constitution of its leadership. He therefore
urged the new Executives to understand the gravity of the new
responsibility that has been committed to them emphasizing that the
major target was to have an election where the students will openly
elect their leaders.While commending the HOD for accepting the proposal
for the rebirth of MACOSA, he posited that, the Constitution of the
Executive body was a step in the right direction, with this in place, we
now have a functional MACOSA after many years and it is a history am
proud to be part of and i urge everyone to put aside any personal
interest and support them for the good of all.
In
his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Care Taker Committee
promised to put in his best to in other to have a fruitful
administration. He however pleaded for the support of the students which
he maintain shall enable them succeed.
The new Excos are to serve for the 2015/2016 academic session pending the lifting of ban on election by the school management.
